Valve clearance check and shim adjustment
Valve clearances close up as the seats wear in. Too tight and a valve stops sealing, runs hot and eventually burns. By the time you can hear it, the head is already coming off.
What the job involves
- Tank, airbox and cam cover off
- Every clearance measured cold and recorded on a sheet you keep
- Anything out of spec corrected with the correct shim — no grinding, no guessing
- Cam timing verified on reassembly
- New cam cover gasket and fresh sealant on the half-moons
- Airbox and throttle bodies refitted and balanced
- Running check and a road test
What it costs depends on what we find
The quote covers the check. If shims are needed, you get a call with a figure before anything else happens. On some engines every clearance is fine at the first interval; on others half of them have moved.
